SEAKEEPER is an active gyroscopic stabilizer. Heart of the stabilizer is a fast spinning flywheel (spins up to 9750 rpm!). Large momentum of rotating mass gives strong forces if the axis of rotation changed direction (precession). These forces are used to stabilize the yacht. System is active because hydraulic cylinders rotate housing with a spinning flywheel and produce desired momentum. System is controlled by a computer that receives boat tilt information. Principe is simple, but performance is technically demanding, especially in small units. SEAKEEPER has found solutions: Inside housing is vacuum to reduce drag and allow permanent magnet electromotor to obtain 3 times faster spin. Bearings and electromotor have special cooling system developed by SEAKEEPER.
